Mental Health for Educators

Classroom behaviour can be difficult to manage on a good day. Matching your needs with some concrete solutions we can talk about small changes you can make to your classroom and to your teaching that can make a huge difference in how children and teens with mental health challenges not only engage with the material, but manage their difficulty in the classroom.

Over years of meeting with schools many teachers have said to me "but, I'm not a therapist, I shouldn't have to deal with this difficulty - let's save it for you." My response has often been two pronged 1) I'm not a teacher and yet, it's impossible for me to be a therapist without some teaching about mental illness. 2) It's already happening in your classroom (perhaps daily). So, let's deal with what's there.

In my job I get the great privilege and gift to be able to sit with people one-on-one, without distraction or school demands.

Let me help your school or your classroom for an hour or half a day to share some tricks and tips (and some education) on promoting mental wellness in your classroom.

Topics could include:
  • Behaviour management - classroom outbursts and temper tantrums
  • Anxiety in children and teens
  • Traumatized kids and how to support them
  • ADHD and other impulse control issues
  • Optimizing your classroom environment for kiddos with difficulties
  • General skills that you can use with kids in your classroom to develop increased emotional regulation

Because this service is something new I am offering to schools (and because I am very passionate about trauma-informed schools) I am offering the first five schools, in Guelph and surrounding area, to book a workshop free of charge!
Starting: September 2019
