A Note on Race & Racism

Currently, most of our therapists are white. We acknowledge that there is systemic racism that would have contributed to our ability to access schooling and placements without prejudice. Previous therapy wisdom has encouraged us (therapists), as a group, to be a-political. But, we now know that silence does harm to populations who need us to be clear, to be safe, to be transparent about the work that we have done. We have each done a lot of personal work around race and racism, and have a sense of where growing edges are. Holding the space for anger and rage at a system that we benefit from is something we know to be within our capacity. We strongly encourage all potential clients to ask questions and all potential therapists about training, comfortability, and social location. We reserve some sliding scale spots exclusively for Indigenous folks and People of Colour.
